Songs of Praise

on BBC One London

for Whit Sunday from York Minster
Whit Sunday marks a great day tor the Christian Church, when the disciples were enabled, through the gift of the Holy Spirit, to go out into the world and spread the word of God. Tonight's programme focuses on the younger generation; Geoffrey Wheeler meets some of the young people of York to see how this process is still being continued. Well-loved Whitsuntide hymns are sung by 1,500 schoolchildren and students from all over York in the splendid setting of the Minster.
Come down, 0 love divine (Down Ampney); 0 Peter, go ring them bells; Come, Holy Ghost, our souls inspire (Veni, Creator Spiritus); Blowing in the wind; 0 Spirit of the living God (Gonfalon Royal); Seek ye first the kingdom of God; Forth in thy name, 0 Lord, I go (Song 34); We believe in God Almighty (Corde Natus)
