Douglas Shemley was asked to write the biography of the motor tycoon. Lord Hum. He and Penny stayed at the Hums' country house, and were worried by the atmosphere there Douglas was intrigued when he found that Hum's original part. ner, Walter Fox , was killed in a car crash when the firm was in its infancy, and Hum's success dated from then. Tony Gaunt. now in Hum's employ, hinted that if Douglas uncovered any scandal it might be profitable to him.
