But did he spend it as ' well ' as his wife might hope? John Fibbs-shopkeeper , Ulsterman, miser and small-time gambler in shares - has come to his last day in business. He sees his doctor and visits his lawyer. On that day, John Fibbs discovers the value of his life - a value he hadn't accounted for.
