In the presence of HRH The Prince of Wales, acting as official starter, more entrants than ever take on the foot-slogging, muscle-aching, head-banging, exhilarating spectacular, now in its sixth year - and the one that is likely to run and run.
Over 22,000 competitors have been accepted this year, and more than E4 million will be raised for charity. Among the elite runners at the head of the race, top British athletes compete for places in the Commonwealth Games and European Championships later this year.
