LATEST FINDS AT
OLDUVAI GORGE
At the end of last year Dr. Louis Leakey added two further important discoveries to his 1959 find of the fossil man Zinianthropus in the Olduvai Gorge in Tanganyika, now dated to more than 500,000 years ago. The new finds are the jaw and skull fragments of a child from an earlier period with a comparatively larger brain size than Zinjanthropus, and the first skull clearly associated with Chellean stone tools, a type of implement widely spread throughput Africa and Western Europe.
