Captain Edmund Rogers and Lieutenant Gwilym Hughes, two soldiers in Oliver Cromwell's army, are taken as prisoners to the King's Head, an old house formerly an inn. Here Toby Badger, son-in-law to Red Owain's bitter enemy, turns out to be the secret agent Red Owain is waiting for. Since they know his secret, Edmund and Gwilym must be killed. Toby challenges Edmund to a duel.
