Don't be put off this marvellous 13-part series if you didn't see the original. The sequel to Edgar Reitz's wonderful German epic delivers a rich and rewarding meditation on the 1960s. At its centre is the teenage Hermann, who leaves his village to pursue his musical ambitions in Munich. Beautifully filmed and with stunning music, this is TV drama of the highest order. Part two on Friday at 10.30pm. (Geoff Ellis)
