(Section C)
Led by Laurance Turner
Conducted by Warwick Braithwaite
At the age of seventeen Schubert entered his father's school as a master of the lowest class, and during his first weeks there he completed his first opera, The Devil's Pleasure Castle.
The libretto, like those of his later operas, was poor stuff, and the opera did not even receive the honour of a single public performance. The best part of the music was undoubtedly the overture, which is still occasionally performed.
