Casualty

on BBC One London

A somewhat disillusioned Colette turns to Simon when Josh fails to make an appearance at the staff Christmas party.

Medical Drama: Casualty 8.15pm BBC1
Christmas parties are never a good idea for TV hospital dramas, because they invariably provide a perfect backdrop for extramarital sexual liaisons, or tragedies. Tonight's knees-up at Holby City paves the way for both in an episode that ends in spectacular pyrotechnics. It all starts off so quietly, yet soon things begin to shape up like a typical 'IV hospital Christmas. There's a mildly wacky Christmas-related story, when a man is electrocuted and falls from his roof as he attempts to set up an illuminated Santa.
Then there's tinsel on the wards and an air of jolly expectation as staff don their fancy dress in readiness for their annual shindig at a local pub. And an old romance is rekindled for Nikki Marshall (Kelly Harrison) and Jack Vincent (Will Mellor).
But trouble is brewing. Josh and Colette are not seeing eye to eye, which is a bit of a shame, as theirs has seemed such a stable, happy relationship. Colette, thoroughly fed up with Josh, who cannot attend the party due to a long-standing a engagement, flounces off and dances provocatively in the arms of a handsome male colleague. And the fun doesn't stop with a conga...
Josh, meanwhile, has been detained by saving the life of a child, and his evening ends very badly when he spots Colette enjoying herself too much at the party. He then unwisely makes the acquaintance of a bereaved husband with a particularly acute emotional problem, before they both embark on a dangerous journey.
