Anita and Me, Meera Syal 's autobiographical novel set in a Midlands mining village in the early 1970s, comes to the big screen this week. The main theme is the childhood experiences of a young Asian girl as she comes to terms with living in two cultures -the temptation to rebel against her parents, the need to be accepted by her friends and the discovery of her own rich heritage.
