War, Paul Whiteman formed a band with arranger/pianist
Ferde Grofe and helped pioneer the big dance band. He had over 200 hits and recorded with such stars as Bing Crosby , Tommy Dorsey and Billie Holliday. In 1924 he also commissioned and conducted the first performance of Gershwin's Rhapsody in Blue. Presented by Richard Sudhalter. Producer Roy Oakshott
