(1873-1943)
Rachmaninov was one of the last great performer/composers, and, contrary to critical predictions at the time of his death, his music is more widely performed than ever. This week's survey of the piano music includes contributions from leading pianists Peter Donohoe and Stephen Hough , and classic performances from 70 years of recordings. Today's programme includes a famous recording of the concerto which established the composer's career. Preludes: in G, Op 32 No 5; in E flat, Op 23 No 6
