Ex-professional football star Paul Crewe finds himself given a one-year jail sentence for driving his girlfriend's car into the river.
The warden wants Crewe to coach the guards team but the sadistic Captain Knauer does not and persuades him to refuse. This enrages the warden who inflicts grim punishment on Crewe.
Determined to get revenge on both men Crewe forms his own mean and powerful team.
