Following the plague caused by the Sino-Russiian germ war, which has already decimated the world's population, Robert Neville believes himself the only person immune from the terrible disease. From the lonely security of his fortress-apartment, he listens to the nightly threats of the local sufferers-known as the Family - for whom Neville represents the technological irresponsibility that has destroyed civilisation.
