The Philips Night of Athletics from Crystal Palace
Some of the greatest names in athletics compete in this major international meeting - the curtain-raiser to a season to be climaxed by the Commonwealth Games and European Championships. Steve Ovett, Nick Rose, Marty Liquori and David Moorcroft meet in the 3,000m; Sebastian Coe, Josef Flachy and Carlo Grippo clash in the 1,000m; and David Jenkins faces the Americans Ronnie Ray and Maurice Peoples in the 400m.
Rod Dixon, Wilson Waigwa, Franklyn Jacobs, Don Quarrie, Irena Szewinska, Sonia Lannaman, Grete Waitz, Geoff Capes. Wladislaw Komar and new world record-holder Henry Rono are among more than 30 stars from 11 countries competing.
