BBC Symphony Orchestra 70th Birthday Concert
The BBC Symphony Orchestra celebrates its 70th anniversary with an adventurous live programme which looks back to the orchestra's past-the BBCSO gave the UK premiere of Prokoflev's Alexander Nevsky under Adrian Boult in 1941- and forward to its future, represented by new works by two British composers. Leonard Slatkin takes the baton for the first time as the orchestra's new chief conductor, and brings an American touch with Barber's dramatic Violin Concerto.
