THACKERAY AND HIS MOTHER

on Third Programme

View in Radio Times

Talk by Professor J. Y. T. Greig
Professor Greig maintains that Thackeray's great powers as a novelist were spoiled by the extent to which his private life dictated to him as he wrote; that his literary judgment was constantly distorted by his personal experiences and relationships with other people. Professor Greig thinks that Thackeray's mother was the most lasting and powerful of these influences.
