A Holst Evening

An interplanetary journey around the life and music of Gustav Hoist, guided by Piers Burton-Page.
Contributors include composer Colin Matthews , conductors Hilary Davan Wetton and Vernon Handley, Holst biographer Michael Short and Holst scholars Richard Greene, Raymond Head and Lowinger Maddison, friends, colleagues and pupils of the composer, and his daughter Imogen. Marking out the route from his birthplace in Cheltenham via India, Algeria, Hammersmith and Thaxted to Betelgeuse are Holst's own recordings of all seven Planets and a galaxy of his other music, from a masque for St Paul 's Girls' School to his visionary masterpiece Egdon Heath.
