There Can Be No Revolution without Song On the 20th anniversary of the coup in Chile, when a brutal military regime displaced the popular rule of President Salvador Allende , exiled Chilean artists talk to Mike Gonzalez. Allende's political programme was set to music by singers in black ponchos and depicted in the massive murals that covered the walls of shanty towns, but the creative energy that had brought about a cultural revolution was stifled by the coup.
