played by the BBC Scottish Orchestra. Conductor, Guy Warrack
The three composers represented in this programme have all taken a prominent part in the musical life of the United States. Aaron Copland , born in New York in 1900, is probably the best known to British listeners. Not only have several of his more important compositions been broadcast from time to time, but he himself has broadcast from the studio as a pianist.
Joseph Deems Taylor , born in New York in 1885, is also a journalist of distinction. He has been war correspondent, music critic, broadcast speaker, and editor.
Daniel Gregory Mason , born in Brook-line, Massachusetts, in 1873, comes from one of America's oldest musical families, and is the author of a number of books on music.
