From nine countries come Olympic medallists, world record-holders and national champions to compete in the first-ever sporting contest to determine the supreme all-round sportsman to take the title of World Superstar plus a first prize of 25,000 dollars.
Staged at Calloway Gardens, Georgia, USA, each of the 15 competitors have the choice of contesting seven out of ten events. The contestants from Great Britain: John Conteh , world light heavyweight boxing champion, and Gareth Edwards , one of the all-time greats of Welsh rugby from Canada: Tony Gabriel , national Superstar and top football player from Austria: Karl Schnabl , gold medallist on the Olympic 90m ski jump from Belgium: Corky Bell, star of their national basketball team from Holland: Frank Nusse , Dutch Superstar and Olympic track athlete, and Rudi Krol , captain of their crack soccer team, Ajax from France: Guy Drut , Montreal gold medallist in the 110m hurdles from Sweden: Kjell Isaksson , reigning European Superstar from New Zealand: Peter Snell , gold medallist at the Rome and Tokyo Olympics and former world record-holder in the mile from America: Bob Seagren , gold medallist at the pole vault in 1968 and former American Superstar and stars from American Football Billy' White Shoes ' Johnson Jim Taylor , Dave Casper and Lynn Swann
