Guillaume Dufay, who began his career as a Cathedral chorister at Cambrai, ended it there as the dominating creative figure of the period between Dunstable and Josquin. His Mass, and the associated motet, on the antiphon Ave regina coelorum are generally recognised as constituting his greatest achievements.
