The Birth of a Company
Second of two programmes The British Way
How much chance does a British entrepreneur have of raising the money he needs to launch a company based on a new design or technical breakthrough?
The British have long been said to be good at inventing things but bad at making money out of them. Michael Rodd and Judith Hann follow the fortunes of two pioneers attempting to raise the start-up money vital to get their new technologies into production, while Andrew Neil confronts the financiers with the criticisms levelled at them by the entrepreneurs - that they don't understand technology, that they can't be bothered with small firms, that they aren't prepared to invest in risky ventures.
