Serenade to Music

In October 1938 Sir
Henry Wood celebrated 60 years as a conductor by directing a work specially written for the occasion by Ralph Vaughan Williams : Serenade to Music.
John Steane looks back to the premiere, with contributions from three of the original soloists, the late
Dame Eva Turner , Mary Jarred and Roy Henderson , the composer's widow and the voice of Sir Henry Wood.
