on BBC Radio 3

In the first of what will eventually be several editions devoted to the music of Duke Ellington, bandleader and Ellington expert Pete Long joins Alyn Shipton to propose the essential recordings from Ellington's output between 1940 and his death in 1974. These include the long symphonic work Black, Brown and Beige, as well as versions of the Nutcracker Suite and the Second Sacred Concert.
