For many, the vision of a new Australia in the mid-70s was thwarted when the Prime
Minister, Gough Whitlam , was sacked by the Governor-General, Sir John Kerr.
However, the decline of the economy, the massive influx of new immigrants, particularly from South-East Asia, and a growing awareness of Aborigine rights and of ecology, are perhaps leading to a new vision.
