This is the first of a series of eight programmes devoted to Purcell; four of them consisting of orchestral and choral music, and four of chamber music. They have been devised by Anthony Lewis , whose Music Anthology series was broadcast in the Third Programme last season. Besides Don Quixote , The Tempest, and the ' Ode for St. Cecilia's Day' (1683), Purcell Anthology will include several of the ' Welcome Songs ' (which are scarcely ever heard), a number of the vocal, duets, and the twelve ' Sonatas of Three Parts'
