The Hassidic World of Music

on BBC Radio 3

Today, on the Jewish festival of Purim,
Alex Knapp presents songs and dances of the exuberant and controversial Hassidic traditions which grew up in the Jewish ghettos and villages of eastern Europe, including the niggun, a melodic expression of the yearning for divine bliss; and a re-creation of a Jewish wedding feast.
