Being April 9.00pm BBC1
At the risk of sounding like a soppy old thing, I must admit that I'm developing a soft spot for this good-hearted family drama. Come on - there is absolutely nothing to dislike about Being April, though anyone who is uncomfortable with a series about a woman with three children by three different men might wish to avert their eyes.
But this is a drama with a warm soul, shot through with that much maligned quality - a feel-good factor. It's cosily predictable, too, in that you cannot help but feel things will work out quite well in the end. On the minus side, it is something of a paean to the all-round uselessness of men, but we won't go into television dramas' barbaric treatment of you, gentlemen, just now, as space is limited.
In tonight's second episode April attempts to learn to drive, and is coached by the three dads, with varying degrees of success. But if you can overlook the laboured driving metaphors you might find plenty to enjoy as each of them undergoes some form of enlightenment. (Alison Graham)
