A Question of Population
Presented by Mary Goldring
For the first time since records began almost a century and a half ago - and probably for the first time since the Black Death -Britain's population did not increase last year. There is no guarantee that this will continue to be so in the years to come. but the downward trend in the birth rate over the past decade suggests it might.
Demographic forecasting is as difficult a science as economic forecasting, but they are both the tools of the planner. How we plan our investment, our building and our education over the next half-a-century must be determined by population trends. After years of talking of a population explosion. should we be changing our attitudes?
