Having received papal dispensation to marry Katherine of Aragon, Henry VIII now wants a divorce. Reluctant to approach the Pope again, he decides to declare himself head of the English Church. He finds little opposition amongst the corrupt courtiers and church-men but the one man whose approval and support Henry seeks, will not endorse his action.
