This week Derek Jewell illustrates the vast range of modern popular music by contrasting the sophisticated 'orchestral' approach of the British band Gentle Giant with the abrasive reggae sounds of Bob Marley, whose Caribbean music demands social change and revolution. Songs from another black artist, Willie Hutch, and from the inventive American singer, Laura Nyro, are also featured.
