0 Animals that change Colour '
H. MUNRO Fox , F.R.S.
Many animals change colour as they grow older ; lion cubs are spotted and the chicks of birds that nest on the ground are speckled. This conceals them from their enemies.
Some animals change colour with the seasons; the fallow deer is spotted only in summer, while stoats and mountain hares turn white in winter. Frogs, minnows, and prawns quickly become light or dark according to the ground they are on, and flat-fishes change their pattern according to the ground. The octopus needs only a second to change colour. These are some of the things that Munro Fox will discuss in this last broadcast of the term.
