The Benda Family
In 1772, on his tour of Germany, Dr Burney visited the court of Frederick the Great where he met Kapellmeister Franz Benda : ' Monsieur Benda has two sons, both able musicians; his three brothers all applied themselves to music in conseauence of his success.'
The Bendas were one of a number of musical families from Bohemia to become absorbed into German cultural life and their contribution is important enough to be sampled for its own sake. Franz Benda Sinfonia in c
