Birdwatch

on BBC One London

Live from Martin Mere
Seventeen thousand pink-footed geese spend the winter on this marshland reserve, and these are the birds Tony Soper looks for during his second live report of the day. This ancient mere had all but disappeared 11 years ago, but the wetlands were re-established by the Wildfowl Trust, and the birds returned. Janet Kear , the curator, tells the story.
