Paul Guinery is joined by Roger Nichols to present the first of four editions featuring the choral music of Felix Mendelssohn.
As a young man Mendelssohn was well versed in scripture. He wrote many psalm settings, some of them, like Psalm 42, on a scale comparable with Bach's cantatas. He also steeped himself in the Liturgy and was just 17 when he composed a substantial setting of the Te Deum, which the BBC Singers have recorded specially forthis evening's programme.
