Soon after his marriage to the beautiful Marama, the young sailor Terangi signs on for a trip to Tahiti where he becomes involved in a fight - ending up in jail. In an escape attempt he kills a prison guard and seeks refuge back on his island. The excitement develops, climaxing in a devastating hurricane which destroys the island and kills most of the inhabitants.
