STYLE IN ORCHESTRATION

on Third Programme

The first of two illustrated talks by Charles Mackenras in which he also conducts the BBC NORTHERN ORCHESTRA
Many compositions show an approach to orchestral style that is as original as the music itself. Charles Mackerras analyses various orchestral styles and shows how the character of a composer's music can be radically altered by orchestration as, for example, in Tchaikovsky's Mozartiana and Stravinsky's Pulcinella.
