A film about three ships - Naval frigate, container ship, sailing barge - and the men who live and work in them by Philip Donnellan.
Working on the sea is a dangerous trade, a job with special risks, needs, obligations. At sea, the Captain is king, priest and lawyer in one. By tradition the crew are "scum, a parcel of villains", living hard at one end of the ship while the officers luxuriate at the other. What is the reality? What is life aboard ship like today? How do Captains and crews see their relationship? Above all, how much do we know or care about the sea, and the men who sail on it?
