This dramatic reconstruction of the life of movie idol James Dean centres on his friendship with writer William Bast. The film follows their early struggles as acting students, through Deans meteoric rise to stardom in just three films -until his death, aged 24, in a car crash. ,
Since his death in, 1955 the actors films have been continually revived, awarding him a cult status, establishing him as the personification of American youth in the 1950s.
